Hola from Mexico!

After a few months of planning and anticipation, Eric and I left for our long-overdue (and highly-recommended!) trip to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, at the very tip of Baja California.  The Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California) creeps up to Cabo on the East and the Pacific is on the West and South.

We had booked an all-inclusive stay at the Riu Santa Fe, just a few minutes from the marina and downtown Los Cabos.   The picture above is what we were expecting, according to their pics online.

When we arrived at the airport and had our bags, we were taken aback a bit by all of the people casually standing around (waiting for their rides) drinking Mexican beer, the glorious sun beating down on us, and... the time share people trying to solicit our business (oye).   We got in our shuttle and headed to the motel where we were greeted with smiling locals and margaritas!

The resort was beautiful, with palm trees, cacti, gorgeous flowering shrubs everywhere, plus both sand gardens and meticulously-manicured grass.
The resort was quite large, with many linked buildings with guest rooms, bars, sitting areas, etc.  Stone pathways connected everything together.
When we first got to our room, we immediately had to check the view from our balcony.   What a pleasant surprise we had!
Our view was "El Arco de Cabo San Lucas".  The far left rock is called Land's End.  Neptune's Finger is another smaller rock, just to the right of it.
Lover's Beach resides on the "calm side" (Sea of Cortez), while Divorce Beach is on the Pacific side.  Like its namesake, Divorce Beach is not the side you want to swim on!
After quickly unpacking, we needed to venture out.   We started at the main pool that is right on the ocean.  It wasn't far from our room.  It was just like the pictures we'd seen; absolutely breath-taking!
Humorously, there was always a Mexican naval ship anchored right in front of the resort in the bay.  I guess that means we'd be nice and safe.  :-)
And at other times, there were cruise ships anchored there also!
The first full day was filled with nothing but R&R, drinking pina coladas and margaritas on the veranda overlooking the ocean, watching people on the beach directly below (swimming, playing volleyball, riding horses), passing-by ships, and just relaxing.

The beach was fun and interesting.   The sands were white and the waters clear.  We ventured there often.
At times, there were musicians who walked the beach, singing and collecting donations.
Beach vendors were camped out (some also walking the beach), selling sunglasses, sombreros, sarongs, hats, T-shirts, etc.   Eric bought a straw fedora.  And, one day, he was solicited to purchase an 8-ball and some marijuana!  (Yes, he declined! ha!)
The hotel had five restaurants; Torote (the steak house), La Mision (the Mexican place), Carusso (Italian), Zashila (Asian), and El Baja (ginormous buffet with every food imaginable).  Fresh fruit was everywhere!
Here we are at Torote one evening.  Torote has a view of the ocean and the main pool.
La Mision was in a different area, near the secondary pool.  I've never been a fan of Mexican food, but I thought this restaurant's food was the best (I suppose it should be, being in Mexico!) and I believe I will continue to explore my newly-found love of this food genre.
Funny little line by Eric while eating his tortilla soup at La Mision (not sure why I'm telling this, but it was so funny at the time)....  He said, "Hmm, well it tastes like a wet burp, but oddly... I don't mind it!"   Ha!  He comes up with the craziest things sometimes!
I actually thought the soup was very good.  The tapas were wonderful!
Some evenings, we enjoyed snacking from the taco stands that were in the main open common area, where the outdoor bars were.   Eric and I can now say that we've eaten cactus, as that was one of the key ingredients they grilled as a topper.  It was good!
Each night, they had constant entertainment, either on stage or in the Commons.
I took pictures of the Mariachi band that played one evening.   There were also other singers, DJs, and a "discoteca" - lots of dancing!
On our last day in Cabo, we had a terrific time, oddly not on the beach or shopping in Los Cabos.  We spent the day in the air-conditioned sports bar, shooting pool all day (just like "old times")!
We ate at El Baja, where they had another Mariachi band with a harp player and two guitarists.  Eric [financially] coerced them to play a "very romantic" song for me to "make me melt".   And, it did.  I've got a pretty great husband!!!
...didn't get the romantic Mexican love song on video (they were too close - plus, I wanted to enjoy the music).
Buenos Dias!
