"Snips and snails and puppy dog tails, that's what little boys are made of!"
Surrounded by my sweet boys (hubby Eric, sons Connor and Ramsey, and our dog, Jango), I thought this a rather befitting name for my crew's blog. To our cherished friends and family, happy viewing! We love you!
Bittersweet, it was - the preschool field trip to Storybook Land. It was the "last harrah" of the year.
Luckily, we had a beautiful day (amidst the surrounding cloudy/chilly/rainy days) with sunshine and temps in the 60's!
There were a lot of parents who volunteered to go on the field trip. We all split up and conquered.
Ramsey and I were paired up with Keagan (one of Ramsey's best buddies), his brother Greyson (he's 7 or 8), and their mom, Victoria.
We seemed to be paired up appropriately. All of the boys are spirited and they got along like peas and carrots. They were so excited when they entered!
A few times, we crossed paths with the rest of the group.
Ramsey said, "Hey Mom, I'm winking at you!"
Greyson was such a good buddy.
And all of the Pre-K boys (and Greyson) were pretty stoked that they got a table all to themselves! "The Boy Table!
We had such an awesome time.
So thankful for such a wonderful group of friends, teachers, and volunteers.
Ramsey's preschool class had a bit of a hiatus regarding field trips throughout the holiday season. But, their first trip of 2019 was to the dentist!
Ramsey said they had lots of fun seeing all of the neat things dentists use to help people with their teeth. He got a cool sticker too.
Ramsey said he wanted to go the dentist because this dentist had Legos! I reminded him that our dentist also has Legos. :-) I suppose he should go there one of these days, just for a check-up.
Below is just a pic of him and his friend Rebekah playing Legos after their return. This is Ramsey's "girlfriend" (this week... it changes constantly), Rebekah.
In keeping with the letter of the week, "P", Tuesday was "Police Day" at school. Even more apropos, Officer Pickerel went to the classroom to talk about being a police officer, then have a little Q&A session with the kiddos.
Ramsey proudly wore his police officer shirt.
And he was the one sticking his tongue out during the group picture. (Of course he was.)
Today, we had the first sunny day we'd had in a week! It was the perfect day for a FIELD TRIP!
Ramsey's preschool class had been scheduled for their very first class field trip this year. Location: the landfill. I had offered to to help herd children to and fro and chaperone at "the dump". I wasn't sure what to think, but Ramsey's teacher had previously assured me it would be a FUN time! I was slightly dubious, but very curious.
Our "tour guide" was a gentleman named Mike who managed the landfill. He was one of Ramsey's classmate's grandfather. We got the grand tour, starting with some of the heavy equipment. They had a lot of earth-movers and dozers!
On the way, the kids steered towards a large pile of dirt. At least, I hope it was just dirt (my [rather-naughty-today-orange-hoodie-wearing] little boy thought he needed to climb the "dirt" pile).
Then, off to climb the ginormous hill. On the hill top of the hill reads "WELCOME", spelled out in white-painted tires that can be seen for a few miles before you get to the landfill.
Everywhere we looked, there were surprising fun things to see. Some of the kids found the cement deer on the top of the hill to pose with.
Ramsey found an old punching bag to climb on.
When we got to the top, Mike and his colleagues had some fun things planned out for the kids; tire bowling!
Ramsey thought this was rather fun and let his tire go!
A couple of kids' tires collided and Ramsey was none too pleased about that!
We sat the tires back up and rolled down again. Many of them hit the refrigerators below, one jumped into an open door on one of the trailer houses. Mike rolled a huge tractor tire down the hill. It smashed a golf cart that was sitting at the bottom of the hill. It made Ramsey sad to see it get crushed.
Then, we hopped on a trolley and got the full tour of the rest of the landfill. Some of it was what I was expecting. Some of it was even more interesting than I'd imagined!.
Mike had one of his workers get out "the crusher" and smash up a boat.
While most of the kids clapped and cheered, Ramsey started to cry! He shouted out, "NO, NOT THE BOAT!!!" I told that maybe once they smashed it, they could recycle it into something new. That helped... a little.
Mike stopped the trolley at the new ravine that they'd been working on since May of this year. He said they'd moved over 600,000 yards of dirt to create this area which will start holding garbage as early as next week.
At the end of the tour, the kids took a picture with all of the kid-sized motorized vehicles that they have set up by the gate. I asked him if there was anything wrong with them (thinking what a shame it was that they were all there). He said that most of them really just needed batteries. From personal experience (buying a battery for Ramsey's yellow Hummer), they're about $75.00. Still though....
I'm not sure what their next adventure will be, but we'll be looking forward to it. Ramsey and his class had such a good time!
Since Ramsey was told that his preschool class would be taking a field trip to the fire station a week ago, he's talked about it constantly! After all, he's never been to a fire station before and he's never seen a real fire truck. Fun!
Today was the day. However, he didn't seem thrilled... which was a total shocker. And, when Eric dropped him off at preschool, he seemed sad and wanted to "go home". Eh, he'll be FINE! :-)
Of course, Eric had to call me an hour later to tell me that "the school called and Ramsey is throwing things and trying to bite other children". My husband is such a joker!!!! What a stinker! If he would have made the joke more realistic and toned it down, I may have believed him... for a second. :-)
And, he was fine. His teacher said he was a little leery this morning, but he came around and had a great time after he'd settled in. He didn't, however, want to get on the bus too badly though, I was later told. It was his first bus ride, so I wasn't surprised. Miss Mariah (his wonderfully sweet teacher) said she had a nice chat with him and he had just been a little scared.
Here's Ramsey on the fire truck stairs (intently looking at not-sure-what?!?):
And seeing a fire fighter in full gear: Note: To "protect the innocent" I had to Photoshop the other little kiddos out.
When he arrived home, his backpack held a fun plastic fireman's hat and a gold fire marshall sticker. We'll get some additional use out of those items again during some dress-up time!
