Lost: First Tooth

Weeks ago (Dec 9th ish), Ramsey told Eric and me that his [lower middle] tooth hurt.  Groaning, thinking it was a cavity, we figured at least we already had his six month check-up and cleaning scheduled - coming up at the end of December.

The next day, Ramsey mentioned it again. He touched it and I noticed it seemed to be loose.  Well sheesh, there isn't a cavity, it's just ready to come out!  Yay!    I told him that it'd be just a few more days and he'd be losing his very first tooth!  He hasn't had a "first" in quite some time now.  :-)

I went hunting for my childhood Tooth Fairy pillow.  I could not find it!  Where did it go?  Did I lose it somewhere along the way?  I must have.   Well... so be it.  It was kind of girly anyway.

I went on the hunt for a new pillow for Ramsey.  I found some very odd, nay creepy, things online.   But, then I went to Etsy (aaah, love Etsy!) and found all sorts of fun ones.  I even found a few Star Wars themed pillows.  I let Ramsey pick it out.  He was thrilled!  He chose one that was red with a black Darth Vader tooth on it and a little black pocket.  It even had a black strap "handle" so we could hang it on his doorknob or a hook.  I thought that was quite ingenious - the Tooth Fairy would not need to dig under his pillows or risk waking him up.  Marvelous!     The only downside: Shipping... might be a week and a half or so for shipping.  Ugh.  I conceded that it would not make it in time, but I would still be optimistic.

Fast forward to Tuesday, the 22nd.  It arrived!  Yay!  And, Ramsey's tooth was still intact, holding on by a thread.  Oh, how I wanted to pull it then and there!!!
Sidenote:  The tooth was still intact because Ramsey did NOT want anyone to yank it out!  At first, he was upset and scared that he was going to lose one of his "beloved baby teeth".  He didn't want to lose a tooth!  After a few days, he resigned to the notion that it was going to fall out.  BUT... it wasn't going to be ripped out of his head by anyone (rats! haha); it was going to fall out naturally.  He even talked about biting into an apple (which he NEVER does - he finds it gross and will only eat pureed applesauce).
Second sidenote:  He LOVED the fact that showing his wiggly tooth to his Dad grossed him out to no end!   Ramsey would purposely show him so he could get Eric to pitch a fit!

December 24th:  We told Ramsey he should let us pull his tooth out so that the Tooth Fairy could come the same night Santa did!   Eric then joked that maybe Santa would ditch Mrs Claus and then marry the Tooth Fairy.  Ramsey laughed.   It was not enough for Ramsey to let us pull that darn tooth out!

December 27th:  Ramsey's tooth was basically laying perpendicular to his gums.  I'd had it.  I made my scared little boy lay back with his mouth wide open.  I no more than grabbed it and it was in my fingers.  Ah, satisfaction!

Ramsey was a little mad at me because he was bleeding.  I threw a cold wet wash cloth in his mouth.  See picture below.  (I found it quite amusing personally).
After about five minutes, the cloth came out and he let us see his new smile.
That night, the Tooth Fairy came.  I'm guessing, because it was Ramsey's first lost tooth, he scored a whole $5!
The next day, after showing off his moola, he informed us that his other lower front tooth is now also loose.   I guess we'll wait another three weeks for that one to come out too!

LEGO-MANIA!

Ramsey has a number of obsessions lately (dart-throwing monkeys from Bloons TD6, ninjas/ninja weapons, Star Wars, and his favorite You-Tuber, Dan TDM - to name a few).

[Taking after his Big Brubby Connor] he is also extremely obsessed with Legos.   For Christmas, he received a number of Lego Star Wars and Lego Minecraft kits.   So, on Christmas Day and for about the next three days, he and I built little Lego characters (large and small), ships, boats, landscapes, and more with the little plastic blocks.

Admittedly, I love building with Legos, but I never had them as a child (guess I had too many Barbies and other toys!?!?).   I had to stop and take breaks when my poor back ached.   Ramsey was like the Energizer Bunny and wanted to just keep going!

So far, we have only ONE kit left to build.... and it's the biggest one; General Grievous' ship (from Star Wars).  That one will be saved for another weekend!   I am looking forward to that!

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

On Christmas morning, we opened our presents from Santa!

We all got funny T-shirts.   Ramsey got some fun toys, Connor got a lot of candy, Momma got chocolate (yes!!!!), and Daddy got some yummy shower gel.
I had purchased a prime rib roast and popped it in the oven for a delicious Christmas dinner.
Oddly, I'd never made one, but the method I chose was easy!   "Set it and forget it"!
It turned out amazing.  This will be a new Christmas tradition!
Merry Christmas!

Christmas Eve (COVID-Style)!

Christmas was very different this year... and we all know why... yes, once again, COVID-19 is the culprit.

That said, we weren't going to let it bum us out completely.  Christmas is all about the birth of Jesus, our love of family, and giving to others.  We'd do as much loving and giving and celebrating in just a slightly different way.   As a whole, we also vowed to make sure to have a big bash after everyone's had their vaccinations and risks were lower.

On Christmas Eve, Connor drove back from his Mom's.  While on the way, Eric, Ramsey, and I drove to town to visit Mom and exchange gifts.  (The three of us had been quite isolated, but Connor isn't able to isolate much with college, his job - and his social life!)

When we left, we prayed that Mom would be able to get her COVID vaccination soon so we could get together and spend more time.
When we got home, it was the usual Christmas Eve tradition.. We made (and pigged out on) homemade pizza.
And, sipped hot cocoa.
Before gift time, we horsed around a little and snapped a few pictures.
Watching the boys play always makes my heart happy.  Connor is such a good big brubby!
Then... present-opening time (while watching a Dolly Parton Christmas special on TV).
A special partially homemade present Ramsey received was a keepsake from the Hecla post office.  Grandpa Orin made a wooden box and added the door/lock set/window to the front.  Ramsey thought that was a fun gift - a great place to store his Star Wars guys!
Our little ninja-obsessed kiddo went wild when he opened up his shurikens (throwing stars).
We did opt for the hard plastic ones vs the sharp metal versions!
I received a lot of wonderful gifts, but probably my favorite (because I am sentimental) is a charm bracelet that I got from the boys.   Each charm is personal and has meaning.  :-)
After all of the presents were opened and the living room mess (oh, what a disaster area!) was cleaned up, we watched Christmas movies and enjoyed each other's company.
Ramsey put out sugar cookies for Santa.   He was a bit overzealous himself and ate part of Santa's cookies!
Other than being able to spend the evening with more family, the only thing missing on this beautiful Christmas Eve was going to church service.    Merry Christmas Eve!
