RIP Riggsy

Riggsy Duven
Born December 8th, 2013.  Died July 7th, 2020
Sweet Riggsy Puppy... our best friend with an enormous heart, the sweetest dog in the world (absolutely the best "kid dog" anyone could have), comforter/snuggler, awesome jumper-off-the-dock and swim pal, fantastic fetcher, snow buddy, stick-loving sweetie, happy greeter, and Ramsey's nighttime companion (protector and the one who "kept away the bad dreams")
Our hearts are so heavy and our home is so very different now without you.

As noted in a previous post, Riggs had not been well.  However, towards the end of his life, the pain and symptoms associated with his pancreatic cancer became extremely prevalent in a very short amount of time.

On Monday, July 6th, Riggsy had his last little "wade" in the lake with Ramsey and me.  And, he fetched his throwing duck for the last time for Eric.  His will to play and have fun was so strong, but his body just couldn't do it; the cancer was winning.  That evening, he was in even more pain.  We had to make the most difficult decision we'd had in years.

On Tuesday, July 7th, we all stayed with Riggsy for the entire day.  Then, late in the afternoon, Eric and I drove him to the vet to go to sleep one last time.   Due to COVID, both of us couldn't be at his side.  Eric carried him in and I stayed with him to hold his paw and his head for his last few breaths.

There's the sad part.  Now, to remember our amazing dog whom we loved so very much, here are some pictures of the time we had with him.  He, who brightened our days so much.  He who always had a wagging tail and happy "puppy grin" for all of us.  He who waited for kids to come home from school.

Dear sweet Riggsy.... our special puppy, you are loved and have a very special place in our hearts in our hearts.  We miss you.
